Congratulations! You’ve stumbled across a wild Blurgle, also known as Nate Dean. This creature comes in many varieties: Teacher, Foodie, and (most relevantly) Gamer. Very friendly and easily pliable with a good beer, they are known to engage in all manner of absurdities.
The Blurgle first learned the rules of D&D over 25 years ago by playing the original Baldurs Gate games. He's been immersed in the infinite worlds of roleplaying games ever since–with a particular affinity for games such as Exalted, Scion, Shadowrun, and D&D 5.5e/5e.
At the table, The Blurgle is known to focus on co-creating compelling and fun narratives above all else. Every player gets a chance to shine, every character gets to contribute and evolve. The Blurgle tends to eschew miniatures and maps in favor of "theater of the mind" gameplay, but he does love all varieties of clicky-clacky math rocks (see also: dice). Even though The Blurgle values the rules and loves to play with the fiddly bits of an RPG system, he will never let those things get in the way of a good story. The Blurgle also loves interesting home-brew systems and regularly engages in game system design as a hobby.
Whether you are an experienced player or brand new, The Blurgle is a welcoming guide to the world of tabletop roleplaying!

As someone who played a lot of board games prior to playing DND, I was really surprised at how steep of a learning curve DND can be. Upon meeting Nate, not only did he do a fantastic job of DM’ing our table, but he took time to teach us the inner workings of DND battle mechanics and lore. He broke everything down in a way that everyone at the table could understand. He is an absolute go-to for if you have a group of friends learning how to play DND for the first time.
Before I met Nate, I had never played TTRPG, even though I was curious. It had felt overwhelming to try and enter this very elaborate game with its own languge and players who already had a deep understanding of the game mechanics. I felt incredibly fortunate that Nate decided to run a game for some of us newbies who wanted to try it out. The original plan was to do a one long night of gaming. As you can imagine that one night turned into a whole campaign. The world was so tangible, from the scenery building to the characters we encountered. I feel lucky to have had Nate as my first DM and introductory experience into this world.
Nate is a fantastic GM for beginners as he teaches enough of the game mechanics to be fun and interesting without bogging you down with every single rule. He fills his games with rich imagery and storytelling. It will make you feel scared, exhilerated, triumphant and just plain curious to see what happens next.
I’ve been playing in games with Nate for years now, both as a fellow player and with him as the DM and I can’t say enough good things about him! He’s equally great at flying by the seat of his pants or planning out modules. However, do be warned; he’s got Will Wheaton luck with rolling ones and should never be left alone with the Deck of Many Things.
This guy loves to be surprised as a story teller
He yes-ands, he is willing and able to be blindsided by player/character bullsh*t (mechanical and otherwise) and does very well with it to make a challenging and wonderful story.
Nate was my first-ever gm and introduced me to the world of TTRPGs. His games are always fun, engaging, surprising, and leave you laughing. He is meticulous in his preparation, encouraging in his instruction, and is a fantastic wellspring of information. Four years since that first game, I consider myself a fairly experienced player, and I still always learn something new at Nate’s table!
