J.R. Morrow’s Upcoming Games
Reviews
Easy to Game With
J.R. is easy to get along with, he’s an upstanding member of our tabletop community and a creative GM. He’s open to new ideas, he’s accepting of people, and he’ll find ways to make situations work regardless of player choice. It’s a pleasure being on his table and seeing the ideas he brings.
Brilliant Guy
Every time I’ve played with JR I’ve had a smile on my face. When he runs a game, he knows his stuff, to a deep level, but it doesn’t feel like getting beat over the head with esoterica and obscurity – his knowledge accentuates and strengthens the game in interesting ways. But, this does not stop creative and out-of-the-box thinking in the slightest – as you could assume given the tone, I say he rewards it.
My context with him as a GM and me as a player is Shadowrun, but I’ve worked and talked with him on Mage enough to know that what I say is more of a universal maxim. Indeed, whenever he talks about any TTRPG he actively enjoys, you can sense a genuine joy and familiarity with his words as if it was an old friend.
All in all, I might not be someone who gets paid GMing – but if there was ever a GM I think people should actively pay for, it would be JR. Whether new or old, you’d certainly be getting your money’s worth.
Great GM
J.R. is one of the most unique GMs I’ve had the privilege of gaming with. I’ve known them since the late 90’s and most of my core gaming memories have been in their presence. 100% awesome GM.
Review of J.R
J.R is a great Game Master one of my favorites to run with in my 25ish years of rping. Since I am not the best for reviews I am going to go through the tags and explain how he applies them to his games.
Allows for player creativity: He is very open to letting players do things outside the box and think up crazy things in a game.
Inclusive/Safe: This one I cannot speak on all of this but he is always up for helping add cultures beats or heritage ideas from your culture to the character. As a Hispanic man it was nice to have someone always go that is cool let see how that can be added.
Knows the Rules: I do my best to know the rules pretty well before I get into a game and J.R really helped me with that. Would discuss rules and changes of rules from different editions of a system. He is also very up front about rules changes he makes to let the game run smoother.
Rule of Cool: He is very open to letting the cool run something if you talk to him about it. Sometimes you just got to play on the edge and he is for it.
Sets the mood(Soundscapes & music): He tries to having fitting music play in the background or talk about songs that would set the mood. It great.
Terrific Story Teller: He is great story teller tries hard to get characters integrated into the story he is telling for a more personal connection. Even if it is a one shot will try to add some flare to get you connected to what is going on more then just the game.
Good for Beginners: Really good for beginners taught me the ins and outs of Shadowrun in a few sessions. Always ready to explain a rule or to help you get most out of your rolls when you are new and forgot a rule.
Incredible Visual Aids: Always has a neat map or pictures for the events that are going on. It is never a dull visual moment.
Amazing & Fun Voices: I do not recall him doing voices when I ran but he does his best to make the npc feel alive giving different tones to them.
World Builder: He would explain his world building ideas and how he goes about it before games or after when talking about the session. He is full of ideas and tries to make sure they fit be that from his own custom worlds to pre existing settings.
Master of Details
I’ve played games with JR for years. They’re fantastic with details when it comes to world building, NPCs, adventures, and large scale games. They’re also amazing at running games of any size.
